Everything Apple Announced Today

What You Need to Know and Get Ready to Buy

Apple announced their new products for Spring 2017 today, after the Apple Store was unexpectedly taken down overnight. The company is notably quiet about their product announcements, and many began to speculate that this store change meant new products were coming. And they were right!

When the Apple Store went live again this morning, there were four new products available. With this announcement, we now know that Apple will be releasing new bands for the Apple Watch, a new (RED) initiative iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, a new iPad, and a video app.

These products cover a number of their product lines, and we’re excited to see how they continue to evolve. Most are available Friday, though we’ll have to wait until April for others.

Apple Releases New Bands for the Apple Watch

At the event this morning, Apple announced a number of new Apple Watch bands. These new bands vary from canvas to their classic buckle, and also includes their exclusive Hermés line. They also announced that their Nike Sport bands will be sold separately from the Nike+ edition Apple Watch from now on.

Each new type of band features a range of colors and patterns. For those who enjoy an active lifestyle and use their Apple Watch for tracking their activity, the sport bands maintain the hardy construction.

The Woven Nylon Apple Watch bands are reminiscent of summers on the coast, and is available in multiple colors and features a striped pattern. And, lastly, the Classic Buckle bands are ideal for those that want a smart watch, but enjoy the classic aesthetic of a traditional watch.

Sport band colors include:
  • Pebble
  • Azure
  • Camellia
Woven Nylon band colors include:
  • Berry
  • Tahoe Blue
  • Orange
  • Red
  • Pollen
  • Midnight Blue
Classic Buckle band colors include:
  • Sapphire
  • Berry
  • Taupe

With the variety of Apple Watch bands added, we’re excited to see which ones people gravitate towards.

Apple's new (RED) iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

Apple Contributes to the (RED) Initiative with New iPhone 7 and 7 Plus

Today, many people want to purchase ethically and make the money they spend count. Companies like Apple have caught onto this, and they have a unique opportunity to bring awareness to global initiatives.

This year, they have partnered with the (RED) initiative. This organization raises financial support and awareness for HIV/AIDS programs and is run by the Global Fund. Apple will be releasing their PRODUCT(RED) iPhones, bringing awareness to world health issues.

This isn’t the first time that Apple has worked with the Global Fund. They began working together a decade ago, and has released PRODUCT(RED) devices in the past. (The iPod Nano being one of these products.)

As customers begin putting more emphasis on spending money to help others, these PRODUCT(RED) iPhones give them another chance to do just that. We’re excited to see how this will benefit the Global Fund and the (RED) initiative.

Apple may be a for profit company, but this is one way they’re offering ways to give back — while still buying one of their newest products. You get a beautifully designed phone, and the (RED) initiative can continue helping those around the world that have HIV/AIDS.

In addition to the red finish, these special edition iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models will be available with 128GB or 256GB, and start at $749. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the (RED) initiative.

Apple's new 9.7-inch iPad that they released.

Apple to Release New 9.7-inch iPad

Since Apple released the first iPad in 2010, and since then has gone through quite a few iterations. This latest edition is simply called “iPad”, and it will replace the iPad Air 2.

With these changes, Apple is hoping to appeal to original and new users that are looking for a tablet for home, school, or work. The product itself might be new, but Apple has reverted back to some previously-used components to help lower the price point. (It’s $70 cheaper than the iPad Air 2.) It will, though, feature a Retina display, and will be brighter than past generations.

Other features for the new iPad include:
  • Front and rear FaceTime camera
  • TouchID
  • Apple SIM for cellular modelss

The new iPad features three colors (silver, gold, and space gray) and 32GB of storage. Sales begin Friday, and they will be available for $329, which is cheaper than previous models.

Apple Releases Clips, a Video App

With the release of their Clips app, Apple has set out to make mobile video editing easier. The app allows users to combine videos, photos, and music with animations and effects. These clips can then be shared on all the major social networks. (So it appears as though Apple is not directly competing with apps like Snapchat.)

There are a number of animations and filters available, including:
  • Live Titles (animated captions with voice input)
  • Comic book filter
  • Speech bubbles
  • Shapes
  • Animated posters
  • Emojis

Apple has created a product that simplifies video editing by removing the timeline and track features found in other programs. There are a number of music clips to add as well, and they automatically adjust to the length of the video. We’re excited about the potential of this app and curious to see how it’s adopted over the next six months.

Clips will not be available in the App Store until April, but it will be free.

The app requires iOS 10.3 or newer, and will work across these devices:
  • iPhone 5S and newer
  • New 9.7-inch iPad
  • All iPad Air models
  • All iPad Pro models
  • iPad Mini 2 and newer
  • iPod Touch 6th generation

Apple is known in the industry for their careful, typically surprising timing, and today was no different. With today’s new product announcement, they’re solidifying their stance as a company to watch out for in the wearable, tablet, mobile, and app industries. These may not be completely new and different products, but they are advancements that we’re excited to see.

As Apple continues to expand it’s product line, including watch bands, we’ll keep you updated.
